So here is a piece with a sordid history. This was my first foray into finish carpentry. I had been doing rough carpentry for years, but never furniture or cabinetry. This was a Christmas gift for a particular girl I was dating at the time... it was constructed with love, gifted with love, and after some time, when an ignominious break-up occured, subject table was returned to my door step... not with love.
At the time, it felt like a slap in the face... but frankly, I am very happy to have it back. My family loves this table! We still use it, ten years later, and it is sturdy as ever. It has survived three wild boys on, under, and around it, hammering their toys on it, and otherwise abusing it with whatever they can come up with.
Constructed of birch, this piece features no nails or screws. It is all joined together with biscuits and pegs. The four sides are graced by subtle arches with a keystone piece mid-section.
