Nightstands For Two

Another good friend approached me asking if I think we could build some night stands together. Always a pleasure. I was presented with the design from Pottery Barn, made some minor modifications, and we went to work. The construction is solid Poplar - no particle board, no plywood - solid hardwood. They are constructed entirely with mortise & tenon joinery, which is the strongest joint one can use when making furniture - each piece is cut so that it actually fits into the next (each piece becomes its own square peg, which is mated into a perfectly sized square hole).

Drawers are installed with 100 pound ball-bearing rollers, so they can take quite a beating. And of course, there is a small surprise on one of them - a hidden compartment - you always need somewhere to stash your cash, bubble gum and church magazines, right?

Species Featured: Poplar
Lumber: All dimensional Poplar
Finish: Flat white paint (still able to see the wood grain) and clear polyurethane inside the drawers
Features: Hidden compartment, tapered legs, mortise & tenon joinery
Measurements: Approx. 26" tall, 22" wide, 20" deep

'cause you always need a good place to stash your cash, ammunition, foreign currencies, passports... Just think of it as the Jason Bourne Edition.
