Hallway Bookshelves

It has been a while since my last project was posted, but you might now understand why... This project took me back to a good friend's house to construct and install 21 linear feet of oak bookshelves. Six vertical towers plus a window unit, with 43 shelves in all.

The towers were all constructed as individual units, then installed in place (bolted to the walls, and fastened one to another). The whole unit was trimmed out with a simple, yet elegant crown along the top of the unit. Pretty straightforward project, except for the fact that the house was far from plumb. the floor itself, you might notice, actually has a 1" step in it half way down the hall... so the floor clearance for the shelves ranges from 3 to 5 inches! There is always a challenge, and I always seem to find a way to overcome.

Species Featured: Red Oak
Lumber: Dimensional lumber & Oak plywood
Finish: Polyurethane
Features: Adjustable shelves
Measurements: Approx. 84" tall, 10" deep, 21' long

A couple of great projects on line for the next couple of weeks - stay tuned for updates...
