When my older brother was in the seventh grade, he took a woodshop class (circa 1988), where he made an inspired gift for my parents... a scroll saw cut out of each family member's name. Those six names have hung on the family christmas tree now for 26 years. My sweet mother, several years ago, suggested that it would be neat to add all of the additions to our family to the tree... now that the four children had wed and have produced a small gang of grandchildren. Great idea.
This project was among the more tedious attempted, but certainly filled with the greatest amount of love. 61 names were cut, 31 for my parents and 30 for my in-laws, with the respective names placed in one of two hand-made boxes, secured with a red bow. All of the names were placed surrounding the name of our savior, Jesus Christ, who my parents and my in-laws based their humble homes around as their children grew up. As I filled the boxes with names, I was touched with the rich heritage and the impressive posterity that can come about when a man and a woman fall in love, are married for eternity in the temple, and raise their children on the principles taught by the Master.
Merry Christmas, Tom, Sherry, Tom & Karin... may these names adorn your tree and remind you of the rich heritage you have created for your ever-increasing posterity.
